Sex Ed

Maine Family Planning’s Education Department enjoyed spending the month of May sharing helpful resources for educators, parents, and youth as part of #SexEdForAll Month. See our past posts here and here, or click here for our full list of resources for teaching sex ed in the age of Covid-19.

Of course, sexuality education isn’t all about sex. It’s about consent, self-esteem, healthy relationships, and self-discovery.

And it’s about community — not only buy-in on the local level for comprehensive sexuality education, but also meaningful partnerships with on-the-ground groups that provide unique expertise and perspective. Maine’s domestic violence and sexual assault prevention groups do incredible prevention work with local schools and community organizations.

Take a few minutes to watch representatives of YAAPP and SASSMM speak about their commitment to #SexEdForAll and the importance of this concept in their work. These are just two of many groups striving year-round to empower Maine youth with the information, skills, and resources they need to live the lives they want.
