How far along in my pregnancy can I be?

You may access abortion services at the Family Planning Association of Maine as early as 5-6 weeks and as late as 12-14 weeks from your last menstrual period.

What is the cost for the abortion?

At the Family Planning Association of Maine the cost of a medication abortion or an aspiration abortion up to 13 weeks is $485. The cost of an aspiration abortion between 13 and 14 weeks is $560. This is a comprehensive fee which includes Rh typing, ultrasound, medications, and the procedure. There is no additional cost for Rhogam if you require it.

The cost to you can vary depending on any health insurance coverage you have.

• Many private insurance companies cover abortion care. We accept all private insurance for pre-certification.
• If you have a financial hardship, we will help you access funding resources. Ask for more details when you call.

Are there different abortion options?

Yes, we offer both aspiration abortion and medication abortion.

Do I need to come to the office more than once?

• Aspiration abortion only requires one visit.
• Medication abortion requires at least two visits.

How much time should I plan for my appointment?

We will do everything we can to make your visit as short as possible, but you should plan on four hours. The visit consists of:

• a personal medical history
• information about the procedure
• obtaining your informed consent
• the abortion procedure
• the recovery period (for aspiration abortion)

Can I bring a support person?

Yes. Each patient may bring one support person—your partner, a family member or friend.

What if I change my mind?

Our role is to support you in the decision you believe is right for you. If at any time prior to the procedure you change your mind, your decision will be respected.

Will I receive birth control?

Yes. Selected methods of birth control will be available to you before you leave.

Will my visit be confidential?

Yes. All of our services are confidential. No one may access your information without your permission.
