Training and Education

At the Family Planning Association of Maine our abortion care practice has a dual mission. In addition to striving to provide the best possible care for Maine women, we offer the only independent abortion training program in the state, providing opportunities for residents and medical students to gain a greater understanding of abortion care. In addition, we train to competency physicians who wish to incorporate abortion care into their own practice.

We are committed to outreach in the wider health care setting as well, and provide in-service education to hospitals and affiliated practices, private practices, and family planning centers statewide. Providers and staff at these sessions greatly appreciate increasing their knowledge about a medical procedure which 1 in 3 women will have in her lifetime. Our aim is to help create a climate where women feel comfortable discussing any medical issue with their healthcare provider.
