Program Support for Schools and Youth-Serving Organizations

The FPA provides training, technical assistance and resources to staff and educators in Maine schools and youth-serving organizations.  Our goal is to build capacity to deliver evidence-based approaches to prevent teen pregnancy, HIV and sexually transmitted infections.

Our Prevention Coordinators can assist your school or organization to:

  • Review your existing program or curriculum
  • Identify the needs of the youth you serve
  • Select an evidence-based program that fits with your school and community
  • Train and provide ongoing technical assistance in delivering a selected evidence-based program (we cover substitute pay and travel expenses where appropriate)
  • Purchase selected programs/curricula and related materials and supplies needed to effectively implement the program
  • Ensure the curriculum is carried out successfully, resulting in positive behavior changes
  • Develop a plan to increase community support and respond to resistance or controversy
  • Link to other resources in your community to address teen pregnancy, HIV and STI prevention

In addition, for school-based programs our Prevention Coordinators can:

  • Provide technical assistance to meet Maine’s educational standards and learning results as they relate to comprehensive health education
  • Assist in identifying key concepts, scope and sequence, and developmentally appropriate topics and approaches within a comprehensive sexuality education curriculum
